RSSDA Plans Technology Centre For Craftsmen
The Rivers State Sustainable Development Agency (RSSDA), is to establish a technology centre for the training of craftsmen and women in the state.
The manager of Skills Development, in the agency Mrs Blessing Daniel Kalio disclosed this in an interview with newsmen at the weekend in Port Harcourt shortly after an aptitude test for the selection of candidates for the workmanship and Technical Training Centre (WTTC) at Bori.
Mrs Kalio said that the Agency had also been mandated by the state government to revive all Government Craft Development Centres (GCDC)and Government Technical Colleges (GTC) in the state.
She said that, the situation would provide the state with a pool of manpower that would fit into the oil and gas sector of the state.
According to her, graduands of the Workmanship and Technical Training Centre (WTTC) Bori will be internationally certified as they will be awarded with the London city and Guild Certificate, noting that the situation would help to bridge the gap that exists in the vocational and technical grade of the state.
Also speaking, the project officer of WTTC Bori, Mr Linus Tuboteme said that a number of local government councils in the state were already partnering with the RSSDA for the training of their people.
Tuboteme said that local governments such as; Khana, Gokana, Okrika, Opobo/Nkoro and others have sent in their people for training at the centre.
Also speaking, the centre manager, Workmanship and Technical Training Centre (WTTC) Bori, Mr Hamstrong Amoro said that graduands of the centre would be given the best training obtained anywhere in the world.
Some of the student applicants who spoke with newsmen described the process as commendable.
