The Commissioner of Police (COMPOL),Bayelsa State, Mr Chris Olakpe has warned that serious sanctions awaits any police man whether senior or junior caught engaging in acts that tend to bring disrepute to the command.
Mr. Olakpe who addressed men and officers of the command on Tuesday at the command’s headquarters, warned that those who contravened the official order would not go unpunished.
He emphasised the need for members of the command to co-operate and collaborate with members of sister organisations such as the army, navy, airforce, state security services and other paramilitary bodies.
“Besides, members of the public also deserved some respect from the police for them to work effectively in crime prevention’’
“Our sister organisations are not our enemies, in fact we are like brothers and sisters with one father but different mother. We need them, we need their collaboration, we equally need the assistance of members of the public to work efficiently”, he said.
The Police boss further warned them to be alert when on duty posts, avoid truancy, laziness, lack of decorum and improper dressing.
Every police officer whether junior or senior should be neat, and dress smartly to attract respects and adhere to the tradition of paying complimentto their seniors.
“Henceforth, you are on your own for any wrong action you take in cause of your duty, and if you are not ready to obey orders, you should leave the command on your own for something else”, he warned.
The commissioner, however, commended members of the command for doing excellent job during the last governorship election in the state and for reducing cult related activities to the minimum in the state.
The commissioner’s speech is coming at the heat of two incidents which involved two senior police officers in which losts life were involved.
