Diobu Gets 3 New Model Primary Schools, Soon
As part of moves to cope with the high level of pupils enrolment in primary schools in the Diobu axis of Port Harcourt, the Rivers State Government says it’ will construct three additional model primary schools at the premises of the St. Andrew’s State School, Diobu.
The State Governor, Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, who disclosed this Monday during an unscheduled inspection of the ongoing work on the school, said a situation where 56 pupils learn in a classroom, did not conform with the state government’s vision for a quality education.
Governor Amaechi, who interacted with the pupils of St. Andrew’s State School before going round the school compound, said the St. Andrew’s Anglican Church and the Priest’s residence would be fenced off from the school, to avoid distraction for the pupils.
Governor Amaechi directed occupants of the building behind the school to seek alternative accommodation, to allow for immediate commencement of the project.
He noted that the three new buildings will bring to four the number of model primary schools building to be located at the premises, while lamenting the non availability of space to construct more primary schools to cater for the population density in the Diobu axis of Port Harcourt.
The State Chief Executive, urged the contractor handling the ongoing school building project to speed up the pace of work, to enable the pupils move in within the shortest possible time.
The Governor also inspected work on the dualisation of Ikwerre road project, and advised the contracting firm to make good use of the dry season to complete the work.
