ASUP Chairman Seeks Govt Partnership
The newly elected chairman of the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnic (ASUP), Rivers State College of Arts and Science (RIVCAS) Port Harcourt branch, Bar. Independent Chinonye Enyinda has expressed the willingness of the union to partner with the state government and other organisations towards making the college a center of excellence.
Addressing newsmen shortly after the Academic Staff end of year party, Evang. Chinonye stated “We are ready to partner with organisations from next year, because we can do little on our own”.
According to him, the unions’ partnership with Zenox Technology under the past government of Mrs. Ibiyingibo Selem-Amachree facilitated the acquisition of over 70 laptops and PCs, which enabled most members of the union to be computer literate. “What is paramount is to look into the welfare of the union at the college, and we will also be partnering with organisations that will help us achieve this desire and to pursue the welfare of our members”.
Evang. Enyinda however expressed the desire of the exco to work together with the government for the development of the college. “All we are asking from the government is to give us the opportunity to work with her to work towards the goal”.
The chairman further congratulated Governor Chibuike Amaechi for the good job he is doing in the state “which eyes have seen and the Oputa award 2009, which projected him the best governor in terms of Education ad Healthcare delivery.
He thanked the state governor for payment of the 52 months arrears owed the staff of the college by the past administration and appealed to the state governor to continue with the same spirit of giving the college a facelift as others in order to maintain good standards in accordance with the aspiration of the founding fathers of the institution.

RSG INAUGURATES ARMED FORCES REMEMBRANCE DAY COMMITTEE
The Rivers State Government has inaugurated a Central Planning Committee to organize the celebration of the 2026 Armed Forces Remembrance Day (AFRD) in the State.
The committee was formally inaugurated by the Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Benibo Anabraba in Port Harcourt, last Thursday.
Dr Anabraba who also serves as Chairman of the Committee
highlighted the State Government’s deep appreciation for the sacrifices of Nigeria’s fallen heroes who laid down their lives for the nation’s peace and unity.
“These heroes have given their lives for the security and peace of our nation and deserve to be celebrated. The Armed Forces Remembrance Day is an opportunity to show our gratitude for their sacrifice,” he said.
Dr. Anabraba further extended recognition to all Security Agencies in the State, emphasizing the importance of the event in appreciating their contributions to national security and sovereignty.
The annual Armed Forces Remembrance Day, observed on January 15 across the country is dedicated to remember Nigeria’s departed soldiers and honouring the nation’s veterans.
