Don Seeks Sustainable Funding For Research Development
The Director of Biotechnology at Precious Cornerstone University, Ibadan, Prof Charles Adetunji, has called for sustainable funding of researches to accelerate national development.
Adetunji made the call when he spoke in an interview with newsmen in Abuja, Monday.
According to him, it will act as a cornerstone, accelerate economic development, and improve living conditions of the people.
“Research is important in the national development of the country, as it is the only source for generating and advancing the frontiers of knowledge, skills training and expertise for manpower.
“That is why funding for research is not only about financial sustenance”, he said.
Adetunji added that the success of any research project depend not only on the efforts of the researcher, but also on available infrastructure and funding to conduct the research.
“If there is no proper research, probably, proper development policies would not be in place, or if proper policies are in place, maybe they would not be implemented to benefit the right stakeholders”, he said.
He also explained that failure to give the required attention to research development may dim the future of other sector of the economy.
“That is why research and development are inseparable, given that the failure of research may hinder development”, he said.
