Expert Warns Against Using Toilet Before Leaving The House
A pelvic floor expert, Tiffany Sequira, has warned against using the toilet before leaving the house
According to the expert using the toilet before you leave somewhere could do more harm than good.
“Many people will be well used to nipping to the loo for a pee just in case before they leave for a long journey. But this does not help your bladder and is likely weakening your pelvic floor,”
He said Instead, people should wait until they genuinely need it before going to the toilet.
, Tiffany Sequeira said straining your bladder will train it to empty before it’s properly filled with urine leading to “uncomfortable” issues.
She said: “Generally, as the bladder fills, the stretch of urine pressing against the bladder wall creates signals to your brain that results in the following series of urges, eventually resulting in you making it to the toilet and passing urine.”
So going to the toilet when you don’t properly need to will result in “bladder signalling dysfunction” and you end up with bladder weakness. According to the NHS, this is an issue that millions face across the United Kingdom.
Top tips to improve your bladder function includes pelvic floor exercise, which are needed for around three months before benefits are seen, and cutting down on caffeine and alcohol. It is also advised that you drink plenty of water as people with bladder concerns wrongly believe avoiding fluids will help.
The Tide source previously reported how a doctor revealed that you may be peeing wrong
. Doctor Teresa Irwin shared five tricks to improve bladder health overall, from how many times a day to pee and what position to sit in.
She said sitting in an upright position will not empty the bladder fully, instead urging people to opt to sit in the “cowboy” position. In another video she also urges people to stop peeing in the shower.
