Egwede/Ayama-Agana Land Dispute Resolution: A Dream Come True -Banigo
The long-standing boundary dispute between Egwede and Ayama-Agana communities in Andoni Local Government Area of River State has been amicably resolved at the instance of the Deputy Governor of the State and Chairman of the State Boundary Commission, Dr. Ipalibo Harry Banigo.
The disputed land called Oron Awaji situated between the both communities witnessed protracted court judgements since 1977.
Following the verdict by the Court of Appeal, the Dr (Mrs) Ipalibo Harry Banigo-led boundary commission directed the Office of the Surveyor General of Rivers State to liaise with the Andoni Council Chairman to facilitate the process of carrying out the demarcation/delineation exercise following a truce by both communities.
The protracted land dispute witnessed several meetings hosted by the Office of the Surveyor General and the Andoni Land Resolution Peace Committee. In an interview, the Surveyor General /Permanent Secretary, Office of the Surveyor General of Rivers State, Sir Noel Elenwo, who spoke on behalf of the Deputy Governor, described the peaceful resolution of the land matter as historic and attributed it to the sincere effort and determination of Governor Nyesom Wike to enthrone lasting peace in all parts of the State.
He commeded the Deputy Governor, Dr Banigo for putting in motion the modalities that led to the peaceful settlement and urged the communities to maintain the peace at all times. Also speaking, the Chairman of Andoni Local Government Council, Barrister Erastus Awortu thanked Egwede and Ayama-Agana Communities for embracing peaceful resolution and the Appeal Court verdict ,and lauded the State Governor, Chief Nyesom Wike for his leadership style which has brought development and peace to the grassroots areas.
In their separate reactions, the Chairman of Andoni conflict Resolution Committee, King Dick Isotu, Abah Agwuile, the 13th and King Nla lraron Ede-Ogbolo,the 2nd , Okaan-Ama Egwede, reiterated their desires to live peacefully as a people and expressed willingness to abide by the peace accord. The peaace meeting which was attended by security agencies, Chairman of Andoni Local Government Council, representatives of both communities and members of the Reconciliation Committee was presided by the Surveyor General/Permanent Secretary, Office of the Surveyor General, Sir. Noel Elenwo.
