RSG To Clamp Down On Illegal Water Factories
Rivers State Commissioner for Water Resources and Rural Development, Professor Kaniye Ebeku, has said the state government would constitute an enforcement task force to clamp down on every form of illegal and substandard water factories operational in the State.
This is aimed at ensuring that standardized quality water is delivered to the people of the state.
Ebeku stated this when he played host to a courtesy visit by the leadership of the Water Producers Association of Nigeria (WAPAN) in his office in Port Harcourt.
Ebeku, who noted that water is life, said the provision of potable water that meets the standards and compliant with relevant water laws was of utmost importance.
He urged the leadership of WAPAN to advise members to do the needful by complying with the Rivers State Water Development Law of 2012 which regulates water production operations in the State to avoid being sanctioned by the task force.
“Your contributions are recognised by the government, but it is important for you to know that water is used for different purposes and of course the human body needs a lot of safe water to survive”, he said.
The Commissioner further insisted that the standard and quality of water produced in the state must be maintained at all times and in line with the policy thrust of the present administration.
Earlier, the State Chairman of WAPAN, Egberi Odiri Mackson, said the visit was to congratulate the Commissioner on his appointment, and assure him of their continued willingness to partner the government and the Commissioner in achieving the Ministry’s set objectives.
Maskson expressed hopes that the relationship between the WAPAN and the Ministry would be strengthened for the well-being of the people of the State and humanity.
