MOSOP Condemns Insecurity, Advocates Restructuring
A factional president of the Movement for the Survival of Ogoni People (MOSOP), Comrade Lazarus Tamana has described as unacceptable the level of insecurity in the country.
Tamana who said this in an interview with newsmen at Bodo, Gokana Local Government Area, said the situation was also affecting ogoni land.
According to him, MOSOP is concerned over the present insecurity which has affected the economic and social activities of the country.
He said, farming which is the main occupation of the people have been affected.
“Farmers are afraid to step out to their farms for fear of being killed by bandits and cultists, while petty trading is grounding to a halt due to attacks on traders,” he said.
Tamana traced the root of the problem to bad governance, adding “the root cause of the banditry is linked to the inability of politicians to provide gainful employment to the youths.”
He said Ogoni people were also badly affected by the situation, stressing that many people cannot come back to their towns or villages unless under heavy military or police escort.
He called on Local Government Councils in Ogoni to be up and doing as far as security is concerned.
Tamana said that the Local Government Authorities in Ogoni had not officially drawn the attention of the state government to the insecurity in the land.
“If the government had taken a positive step, it would not have been possible for bandits to bury alive the CDC chairman of Kereke Kwiri Boue, Hon Hycent Nwiiyee kidnapped in broad day light,” he said.
Tamana also condemned the inclusion of Ogoni in the Biafra map by the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), saying that the Ibos and the Ogonis have nothing in common.
He called on both the state and federal governments to immediately restructure the security outfit of the country to make Nigeria a safer place to live.
