Caging The ABOLGA Vultures
Some ignorant and misguided youths are out to disturb the hard-earned fragile peace that is currently reigning in Abua/Odual Local Government Area of Rivers State at the moment.
Without adequate knowledge of governance and constitutional provisions, these mischievous youths are now trending with the infantile idea of #RecallMarshallUwom and are going about collecting signatures to that effect. To them, the honourable Deputy Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Marshall Stanley Uwom is not representing his constituents well at the Assembly.
Against our collective interest as an ethnic nation, they want to be the first in the comity of ethnic nationalities in the state to replicate the Kogi State episode where the governor is sponsoring the recall of Senator Dino Melaye for his arrant and indecorous posture at the Red Chambers of the National Assembly.
What these melancholic youths stand to gain if the only voice we have in the state Assembly is recalled continues to baffle many in the LGA. Will he be replaced by an All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate? If so, will that APC candidate retain the coveted position of the Deputy Speaker?
For the first time in 50 years history of the state and 26 years of ABOLGA, an Abua man is occupying the number four position in the administrative hierarchy of the state. And rather than giving him total and fanatical support, they want to run him down. Is that how an ethnic nation forges ahead in a competitive, multi-ethnic State like Rivers?
It beats my imagination how Abua people like to run down their own. We denigrate and pull down those who will make us proud as an ethnic nation. We have no regard and respect for our people in high places or even their exalted offices. That is why, rather than moving forward, we take three steps backward. That is why, rather than our youths copying noble ideas of others, they imitate the ignoble ones. That is also why when other LGAs in the state are demanding for more first class traditional stools, we are reducing ours. That is why we have no ethnic agenda like other ethnic nationalities in the state.
May I point out at this juncture that if the two Ikwerre sons who are today bestriding Rivers politics were to come from Abua, we would have all fled our various localities by now. But today, in spite of the belligerent postures of Governor Nyesom Wike and former Governor Rotimi Chibuike Amaechi to each other, they continue to dominate Rivers politics while at the same time fast-tracking the development of Ikwerre ethnic nationality.
I like the Ogoni people because in spite of their political differences, anyone that goes against the Ogoni agenda is termed a vulture and treated as such. Our neighbours to the north and east, the Ekpeyes and Kalabaris have Ozugbani Ekpeye and Kalabari Ise Kobiri, respectively that coordinate their ethnic agenda. We have Ezue Abua Worldwide, but our youths have failed and vehemently refused to key into it in order to move our ethnic nation forward.
They have rather become slavish to the Abua proverb that says;” an Abua man cannot be a slave,” which has been the greatest undoing of our people and the principal cause of our backwardness. How can you be a leader if you don’t serve? To be a good leader, they say, you must be a good follower.
It is, therefore, imperative for all Abua/Odual people to shun the #RecallMarshallUwom campaign because it is against our collective interest as a people and ethnic nationality. Our leaders should call the recalcitrant youths to order and advise them to reorder their steps and priorities in line with our ethnic agenda which is that of forward ever, backward never.
All those agitating for the recall of the Deputy Speaker, Rt. Hon. Uwom are the vultures of our ethnic nation because they are fighting against our collective interests.
