‘NITDA Monitors Nation’s Websites To Repel Attackers’
The National Information
Technology Development Agency(NITDA) has said the agency had been using satellite to monitor the nation’s websites to repel any form of attacks by cyber hackers.
The Director, Software and Outsourcing, NITDA, Mr Christopher Okeke, disclosed this in an interview with newsmen in Abuja.
According to him, the agency monitors attacks that are coming from different continents with the aid of the satellite to alert the concerned organisations, block targets or blacklist affected websites against future attack.
“Sectoral satellite has been set up and this is used to monitor various attacks coming from all over the world, especially as it concerns the country.
“One of the things SAT does is to monitor several attacks coming from different geo-political globes, and once the attack is organised, it is seen, it is alerted
“And once we have any attack coming to Nigeria, we alert the agency concerned, either on the website, bank or any of the sectoral industries.
“If their IP had been defamed, we try to blacklist the Internet Protocal address to ensure that they will not attack the second time,” he said.
Okeke urged internet users to be vigilant of cyber-ware which comes up inform of information that would be interesting to the user, “opening such file can cause a great damage to their data or information,” he advised.
US Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) recently said losses from cyber scams totaled more than 2.3 billion dollars from October 2013 through February of this year, affecting 17,642 businesses scattered across at least 79 countries.
NITDA also secures the nation’s networks through its software testing centre, where it ensures safety of software being brought into the country, while it also trains network administrators of organizations against cyber threat.
