Lilly-West (4th right), Vice Chairman, Comrade Fidelis O. (3rd left), Secreatary, Comrade Dan Otakpo (right), State Auditor, Comrade Peaceman Horsfall (left), State Treasurer, Comrade Grace Opurum and other members of the union, during a courtesy call on the monarch in Port Harcourt, yesterday. With them is Mr Donatus Ebi of The Tide(2nd left).
The Rivers State Governor,
Chief Nyesom Wike, has paid glowing tributes to the examplary life of late Eze Wobo Weli Onunwor, the Nyerisi Mbam of Oropotoma.
Wike said the traditional ruler lived a life worthy of emulation while commiserating with the community and family during a condolence visit at his palace in Rumuomasi, Tuesday, in Port Harcourt.
He declared, “as a member of Traditional Rulers Council, everyone will want to associate with him. He was a very respected chief of Ikwerre land.”
While lamenting that the traditional ruler died at a time his advice and wisdom were needed, the Rivers State chief executive urged the family and community to take solace in the legacy the late traditional ruler left behind.
In the words of the governor, “he is not one of the traditional rulers that will speak black in the morning and white in the evening”.
He, therefore, called on the people of Evo and Oropotoma kingdom to take heart that their late ruler lived and served them well.
As part of support for his burial, the governor promised that the state government will play prominent role to ensure that the late chief was laid to rest in a befitting manner.
Wike, therefore, urged the people to sustain the legacy of the late traditional ruler, adding, “he was a man of peace and preached peace all his life.”
First son of the late chief, Prince Nyema Onunwor, thanked the governor and his entourage for the visit.
Onunwor described the governor’s visit as consoling as it has given the family and community strength during the mourning period.
The late traditional ruler is billed to be laid to rest on the 15th of August.
