Lawmaker Urges NLNG To Establish LPE Plant In Bonny
The member representing Bonny Constitutiency in the Rivers State House of Assembly, Hon. Abinye Blessing Pepple has urged the management of Nigeria Liquefied natural Gas (NLNG) to establish a Liquefied petroleum Gas (LPG) Plant in Bonny.
The lawmaker made the call during an advocacy visit to the company in Bonny, where pleaded with the company to incorporate the people in its operations.
Pepple said a situation where LPG or Domestic Gas is shipped to lagos, distributed to other parts of the country is not fair to the local people where the product is being produced.
He explained that if the plant is cited in Bonny, it would generate revenue, employment and at same time give the people a sense of belonging amongst other advantages.
Commenting on the issue of the controversial Dry Dock siting in Lagos, he said, “I believe Onne or Bonny can play host to the facility so that our people, our Niger Delta people, can benefit from such project”.
In his response, the General Manager Production, NLNG, Mr. Chima Isilebo reiterated the willingness of the company to set up LPG plant but said such facility requires private partnership.
He said siting of the LPG Plant does not create employment but that a gas bottling company was needed for sustainable development.
He recalled that the company had, before now, needed a strong private partnership that would provide the needed facility to make such venture sustainable.
Isilebo explained that the company preferred ferrying the gas to Lagos because of the facility and the presence of capable investors in the area.
He lamented that the company was still faced with vandalisation of its gas pipelines and sued for more understanding and co-operation between the company and the host community.
