Amaechi Allays Fear Over Political Future
The success of the mega rally to celebrate the seven
years of Governor Chibuike Amaechi administration is yet to die down. The rally held at the newly constructed 40,000 capacity Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium has been acclaimed to dust the South South TAN rally held in Benin, as over 60,000 witnessed the Rivers State governor’s celebration of his Supreme Court judgment.
On Sunday last week, Governor Amaechi began the week by attending the Adult Harvest Thanksgiving Service of the Christ Church International, Port Harcourt.
At the Harvest Thanksgiving Service Governor Amaechi promised to build the primary school in the church premises. With the approval of N19 billion by the State House of Assembly, he assured that most ongoing projects such as Rumuolumeni, Rumuagholu Roads will be completed before the exit of his administration next year.
The governor dismissed fears over his future in politics stressing that it is in God’s hand, as he has served the State passionately and honestly.
Also within the week, floods of replies came in to extricate the governor’s wife, Dame Judith Amaechi from a wild-allegation against her pet project Economic Support Initiative (ESI) by the past Junior Minister for Education, Barrister Nyesom-Wike.
Chairman of Association of Local Government of Nigeria (ALGON) and Caretaker Chairman of Port Harcourt City – Local Government Area, Barrister Nnamdi Wuche said Wike lied in his claim that Dame Amaechi compelled local government chairmen to donate N35 million to the ESI Kindergatten Education Programme.
In his word, “35 million from which local government? Where did he see such money and which local government gave such money? He (Wike) should be specific because he has nothing to tell the people of Rivers State and people of the State have heard enough of Mr. Wike”.
In the same vein, former Local Government Chairmen in Akuku-Toru and Eleme Council, Hon Paul Awoyesuku and Mr Orji Ngofa dismissed Barrister Wike’s claim, insisting that, “there was not a single time we were asked to pay N35 million to ESI”.
Mr. Ngofa expressed worry over the spread of calumny on the person of Dame Amaechi, “it shows how they have degenerated and how rapacious people over for guest for power,” he said.
One youth leader from Rumuokwuta, Chima Dike said the smear campaign on Dame Amaechi will fail. He said the governor’s wife should be praised for introducing Kindergattan education in rural areas, observing that the project has affected the lives of many children and laid foundation for them.
While the governor was away attending party activities in Kano and Imo States, the Commissioner for Works, Chief Victor Giadom conducted visits on some ongoing projects in the state.
Chief Giadom visited project sites along the Woji/Akpajo Bypass, the Rumuolumeni and Tam David West Boulevard-linking the Airport Road and expressed satisfaction over the level of work done so far.
The State Commissioner for Works specifically promised that the Rumuolumeni Road will be completed soon since the drainage of the expanded road has been completed and linked to the river.

Don’t Risk Your Legacy, Citizen Begs Jonathan Against 2027 Presidential Race
In a letter titled, “An Open Letter to Former President Goodluck Jonathan,” the observer said Dr Jonathan should be careful not to allow himself to be drawn into partisan calculations driven by ambition rather than national interest.
He cautioned the former president against allowing himself to be used by what he described as desperate political interests.
“I believe this is the time to protect the good name and legacy you have built over the years. You should not allow yourself to be used by desperate political elements who may be more interested in their own ambitions than in the future of Nigeria,” the letter read.
The Social Commentator further warned Dr Jonathan to be wary of those advocating for his comeback, claiming many of them were previously opposed to his administration.
“Many of those calling for your return today were your antagonists, those who frustrated your government back then. You should be careful not to become a pawn in a game designed by others or else they will stain your white with their ‘roforofo’,” he said.
He maintained that Dr Jonathan’s legacy remains defined by his decision to concede defeat in 2015, which he described as a landmark moment in Nigeria’s democratic history.
“Your legacy was built through years of public service and your decision to put the country’s peace above personal ambition at a critical moment in Nigeria’s history. That legacy should not be put at risk because of the desperation of a few politicians,” he added.
Mr Adenuga also alleged that some of the promoters of Dr Jonathan’s return have lost credibility in the public space.
“The truth is that some of the people pushing you to contest have already damaged their own reputations. They should not be allowed to stain your legacy with their soiled hands. What they could not achieve on their own should not be pursued through your name and goodwill,” he stressed.
He concluded by urging the former president to remain above political manoeuvring and protect his place in history.
“History has been kind to you. Preserve that honour and remain above the political games of those who want to use your name for their own purposes,” he wrote.
Recall that former President Goodluck Jonathan recently emerged as the presidential candidate of the Kabiru Turaki-led Interim National Working Committee of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) following a special convention held in Abuja, where delegates ratified his nomination ahead of the 2027 general elections.
