Senate To Set Modalites On Gas Utilisation
The Senate Committee on Gas Resources is set to work out modalities on the increase in domestic utilisation of natural gas.
The committee Chairman, Sen. Nkechi Nwaogu, told newsmen Abuja last Thursday that the committee would organise a National Gas Conference in collaboration with the Ministry of Petroleum Resources and other partners.
Nwaogu said the thrust of the conference was to create a forum for stakeholders to discuss ways and means of deepening domestic utilisation of natural gas and eradicate routine gas flaring.
She said the conference would explore ways of creating appropriate forum for various stakeholders to discuss prospects, barriers and concrete steps for the establishment of a viable gas market.
“The conference will enable stakeholders explore initiatives that will bring natural gas to a greater number of homes across the nation and sub-region,’’ Nwaogu said.
According to her, by doing so, Nigeria would eliminate old fashion cooking practices which pose a great danger to the wellbeing and health of families and the nation.
Nwaogu said that the conference would also focus on locating the appropriate supply and price mechanism that would encourage the reduction and ultimate elimination of gas flaring.
She said it would also identify the challenges militating against widespread usage of gas in the country, fashion out and promote best enlightenment campaign for its usage.
The conference which is entitled; “Deepening Domestic Utilization of Natural Gas and Routine Flare Elimination’’ is slated for May 26 to May 28.
