C’River Trains 210 Teachers On Curriculum Dev
The Cross River Government says it has trained 210 teachers in public schools in the state on the newly-introduced Early Child Care Development Education Curriculum (ECCDE).
The Commissioner for Education, Prof. Offiong Offiong, made the announcement on Tuesday in Calabar at a three-day Training Workshop on the Implementation of ECCDE Curriculum for teachers and Care-givers.
Offiong said that the training was part of government’s commitment to the provision of qualitative education in the state.
He said that the ministry of education had also organised similar training for teachers and care-givers in different Local Government Areas of the state.
According to him, this has underscored the importance of the foundational stage of education.
Represented by the Director of schools in the ministry, Mr Bassey Okon, Offiong said that the ECCDE programme started without a well-defined curriculum.
He said that this had given room for the teaching of primary school curriculum content to toddlers, adding that the curriculum was educationally unaccepted.
“However, this has been corrected with the publication of the ECCDE curriculum by the Nigerian Educational Research and Development Council (NERDC), ‘’ he said.
Okon explained that teachers and care-givers were now being trained annually, expressing the ministry’s appreciation to the state governor for his commitment to the capacity building of teachers.
Earlier, Coordinator of the programme, Mr Oja Amang, said the aim of the workshop was to make teachers and care-givers to be familiar with the ECCDE curriculum for easy implementation in schools.
