RSG To Strengthen ICT Centre In PH
Rivers State Government has renewed its resolve to make the
state the I.C.T. Centre in Africa.
Secretary to the State Government, Mr George Feyii stated
this while declaring open this year’s I.C.T. Farm, a holiday programme
organised by the I.C.T. Department of the Governor’s Office to engage secondary
school students in the use of basic I.C.T. tools in Port Harcourt.
Represented by the Commissioner for Youths, Mr Owene
Nwonodi, he said because of globalisation and digitalisation, the knowledge of
information and communication technology becomes imperative for anybody to
excel.
Feyii commended the I.C.T. department for keeping alive the
vision of the Governor Amaechi-led administration, promising that government
will continue to support its activities.
Also speaking, the Commissioner for Local Government, Chief
Samuel Eyiba said the programme, which was initiated by the state government,
was to give opportunity to youths in the state to have the basic knowledge of
information and communication technology, while urging them to take their
studies seriously.
The Special Adviser to the Governor on ICT, Mr Goodliffe
Nmekini, represented by the Director, Administration, Mr Kwedi Nnaali, said the
annual I.C.T. Farm, which started in 2010, will not relent in upholding the
vision of the government for creating the department.
The event was attended by some personalities and top
government functionaries as well as youths and students.
