Ex-Council Chairman Charges Students On Nation Building
Nigerian students have been charged to see themselves as human resource assigned to actively discharge academic and intellectual roles that could strengthen the society and the nation.
A former Vice Chairman of Etche Local Government Council, Hon Emmanuel Nweke gave the charge at Umuede Mba in Etche Local Government Area during a seminar organised by the Mba Students Confederation.
In a keynote address titled, “The Role of Students in Nation Building,” Hon Nweke urged students to be involved in researches, teaching, trading, farming and community development, noting that through their intellectual role they occupy a vintage position to provide the right man-power and contribute their quota to nation building.
Hon Nweke said Nigerian students have economic, social, political, academic and religious roles to play in the society, remarking further that,” you have the power to build institutions that will serve the people.”
Another paper presented by Mashall Isreal Egbule urged Mba students in higher institutions to shun cultism and other antisocial hehaviours but to concentrate on their academic studies.
The paper titled,” The Role of Youths and Students in Nation Building,” advised the students to be progressive minded and endeavour to contribute their quota to nation building stressing that, “Our communities are waiting to judge our valuation of ourselves and to see what we can do with those knowledge, experience, talents, skills and opportunities that we have acquired.”
The lecturer who remarked that contribution to nation building is a debt the students owe to Etche land urged Mba students to explore entrepreneurship to develop themselves, avoid cultism both in the school and community, imbible the spirit of hardwork and to always persevere in the face of adversity.
Mr Egbule reminded the youths and students of the blames currently heaped on the older generations over injustice and bad leadership advised students to stand for positive change in Mba by standing for the truth and justice.
Highlight of the event was a quiz competition involving the villages in Mba which was won by representatives of Okudu village.
President of Mba Students Confederation, comrade Chukwudi Agbam said the seminar was organised to foster peace, unity and educational advancement of Mba community.
He disclosed that MSC has been sensitising youths on the imperativeness of education, love and also involved in the campaign against cultism, regretting that nothing distract students more than antisocial activities.
