Police Take Over Rivers PDP Secretariat, As Party Gets New Exco
The internal crisis within the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Rivers State continued yesterday as the Police operatives took over the premises of the party.
This came as the new leadership of the party in the state moved to take over the office of the PDP in the state.
This development followed the interlocutory injunction of a State High Court sitting in Port Harcourt, which restrained the chairman of the party, Aaron Chukwuemeka, and other members of his executive from acting as the executives of the party.
Following the sacking of the Chukwuemeka-led executive, the party faithful loyal to the governor of the state, Sir Siminialayi Fubara, on Wednesday, held a quick congress and appointed a caretaker committee for the party.
It was gathered that Hon. Nname Robinson Ewor had, in the meeting of top stakeholders of PDP in the state, emerged as the acting chairman of the party.
Ewor, who is also the Chairman of the Governing Council of Captain Elechi Amadi Polytechnic and the Rivers West Senatorial Vice Chairman of the PDP, will pilot the affairs of the party alongside other newly appointed executives till valid congresses are conducted.
The stakeholders had tasked the new executives to bring stability and leadership to the party, which has been plagued by internal conflicts and power plays.
The new leadership had upon inauguration on Wednesday vowed to take over the party office in the State, but heavily armed policemen prevented them from accessing the party secretariat mobilised along the Aba-Port Harcourt expressway.
It was gathered that the police, following the information that there might be a clash at the facility, deployed men in over four vans to the facility, preventing all access to the party office.
As of the time of filing this report, it was gathered the new leadership of the party had chosen a new ground to interface with the members of the party pending when they will have full access to the state office.

RSG INAUGURATES ARMED FORCES REMEMBRANCE DAY COMMITTEE
The Rivers State Government has inaugurated a Central Planning Committee to organize the celebration of the 2026 Armed Forces Remembrance Day (AFRD) in the State.
The committee was formally inaugurated by the Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Benibo Anabraba in Port Harcourt, last Thursday.
Dr Anabraba who also serves as Chairman of the Committee
highlighted the State Government’s deep appreciation for the sacrifices of Nigeria’s fallen heroes who laid down their lives for the nation’s peace and unity.
“These heroes have given their lives for the security and peace of our nation and deserve to be celebrated. The Armed Forces Remembrance Day is an opportunity to show our gratitude for their sacrifice,” he said.
Dr. Anabraba further extended recognition to all Security Agencies in the State, emphasizing the importance of the event in appreciating their contributions to national security and sovereignty.
The annual Armed Forces Remembrance Day, observed on January 15 across the country is dedicated to remember Nigeria’s departed soldiers and honouring the nation’s veterans.
