Rivers’ll Overcome Political Challenges -Commissioner
Rivers State Commissioner for Information and Communications, Warisenibo Joseph Johnson, has said the present political challenges experienced in Rivers State will elapse sooner than expected.
He said, “no matter how tensed and fierce any war may rage, it cannot consume everyone it targets to destroy”.
He, therefore, urged all Rivers citizens who stand for truth and good governance not to be cowed into what he called the “antics and blackmail” from those who do not mean well for the State.
Johnson made these declarations recently, when the leadership and representatives of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP)- Grassroots Support Base of Nigeria (PDP-GSBN) visited him in his office in Port-Harcourt.
Describing the State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, as the “Moses of present day Rivers State”, the Information Commissioner noted that the Governor puts the people of Rivers State first in all his decisions and policies, urging all citizens of the State that believe in equity and the greater good of the state to remain firm in their support.
Likening the relationship between the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Governor Fubara as that of a child who is born and soon abandoned to an orphanage when both parents are alive, the Commissioner noted that only recently, some members of the party went to court to get injunction restraining PDP from doing anything until the substantive matters before the courts are resolved.
“When you see PDP people abusing Governor Fubara, you will wonder where the Governor belongs”, he stated.
He called on all Rivers people to continue to give Governor Fubara the needed support, saying they should be actively involved in the forth-coming Local Government elections fixed for October 5, 2024.
He promised that when victory is won, those who never wavered in their support would adequately get the benefits for their loyalty.
Speaking earlier in his address, State Coordinator of the group, Comrade Joseph Opusunju, said the group, which, he saod, “has been in existence since 2017, garnering grassroots support for PDP across the country, is pleased with the governance style of Governor Fubara.
Comrade Opusunju said the group visited the Commissioner to congratulate him on his well deserved appointment, and to pledge their unflinching support for the state government, promising to continue to further mobilise the electorate at the grassroots level for Governor Fubara when the time comes.
