Wai-Ogosu Becomes New MOSOP President
The Movement for the Survival of the Ogoni People ( MOSOP) has elected renowned environmentalist, Engr Olu Andah Wai- Ogosu as its new President.
The election of Engr Wai-Ogosu and executive members of the body has signalled a new chapter of hope for the people of Ogoniland.
In his maiden speech shortly after his election, the new MOSOP President said a new chapter of total reconciliation has begun.
Engr Wai- Ogosu, a lecturer with the Rivers State University noted his readiness to involve all stakeholders in the interest of peace and cohesion.
He also expressed his willingness to marshal action plans which would affect the generality of the Ogonis whom he said have suffered a lot.
He vowed to unify all stakeholders in the struggle to enable the new executive achieve the desired objectives as expectations are high.
“We have a lot of plans on board. Our profile is there for all to see .We have action plans to bring everybody on board, meet with my executives on how to visit critical stakeholders. Our people must believe in the new leadership so as to achieve our common goal which is Ogoni first. If we work together, all challenges are surmountable.We need ideas, believing that ideas rule the world. Unity, total reconciliation and articulating the Ogoni bills of rights as pursued by our founding fathers must be upheld.
“We are much concerned on issues affecting our people and human lives not excluding education and health.
“As far as I am concerned, the afore mentioned have not benefitted us much. We are here to address it squarely. The voice which MOSOP is known for, Ogoni must re- echo again strongly .The new leadership under my watch must ensure we engage the Federal Government on serious discussions capable of affecting our people the issue of injustice meted out to our son, Late Ken Saro Wiwa and others must be looked into by the Federal Government .The issues they agitated must also be addressed.
“We are prepared to work together , into the unity for the over all interest of the people .No compromise whatsoever in the new team. Whole lot of issues will be holistically approached to give our marginalised people sense of belonging. “he said.
