Canadian Embassy Lauds Wike For Prioritising Women’s Dev In FCT
The Canadian Embassy in Nigeria has commended the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Mr Nyesom Wike, for taking steps to address challenges affecting women development.
The Canada High Commissioner to Nigeria, Mr James Chrisoff, gave the commendation when he visited Wike in his office in Abuja, yesterday.
Chrisoff particularly described the establishment of Women Affairs Secretariat in the FCT Administration as a “critical step” towards women empowerment and development.
He said that Canada would maintain its strong diplomatic relation with Nigeria, adding that Nigerians residing in Canada were providing the necessary bridge between the two countries.
He expressed his country’s interest to partner with Nigeria on agriculture, in line with President Bola Tinubu economic agenda.
Responding, Wike assured foreign missions and other investors of improved security, stressing that security agencies were working to keep the country safe.
The minister said that the Joint Task Force on “one chance” operators was already yielding the desired results, adding that no incident was recorded since team began operation.
He added that President Bola Tinubu has put modalities in place to ensure that his renewed hope agendas is felt across the country.
According to him, a lot of development efforts is ongoing in the FCT in line with the renewed hope agenda.
”Security has improved in the FCT because security agencies have been working round the clock to ensure that the environment remains safe.
“For instance, the issue of one-chance, we set up a joint taskforce and they have been working round the clock, since then no incidence has been recorded.
“The renewed hope agenda of Mr President is to restore hope to our people,” he said.
Wike said that his leadership is focusing on increasing Internally Generated Revenue in the FCT to be able to carry out development projects.
He encouraged corporate bodies, foreign missions, and other taxpayers to fulfil their tax obligations.

HYPREP Tightens Security At Project Sites
Following the rupture of the ground tank of its water facility in Ebubu Community in Eleme Local Government Area of Rivers State, the Hydrocarbon Pollution Remediation Project (HYPREP) has tightened security across all its project sites in Ogoniland.
HYPREP, which dropped this hint in a statement signed by its Head of Communications, Dr Enuolare Mba-Nwigoh, said the Project Coordinator, Prof Nenibarini Zabbey had given the directive for security to be tightened across all its project sites in Ogoniland.
Mba-Nwigoh noted that the tightening of security across the project sites has become necessary to forestall interference with the facilities.
He further disclosed that following the rupture of the ground tank of the Ebubu water facility, a team led by HYPREP’s Director of Technical Services, Prof Damian-Paul Aguiyi has visited the scene of the incident to assess the situation, stressing that the water facility has been cordoned off for public safety.
The statement indicated that following the incident, HYPREP has henceforth barred non-project personnel and non-facility staff from gaining access into any of its active project sites in Ogoniland without authorisation.
While appealing to residents of Ebubu Community and the public to remain calm, the Head of Communications assured them that the Project is taking prompt steps to restore water to the community, saying, the cause of the unfortunate incident is being investigated.
He equally noted that the Chief Security Officer of HYPREP has been directed to immediately tighten security across all its project sites in Ogoniland.
The statement said HYPREP is deeply concerned about the incident, stressing that despite the setback, the Project reiterates its commitment to delivering sustainable cleanup in Ogoniland.
