Tinubu Attends Benin Republic’s 63rd Independence Anniversary
President Bola Tinubu has departed Nigeria for the Republic of Benin ahead of the French country’s 63rd independence anniversary.
The President, who arrived Cotonou, the capital of Republic of Benin yesterday morning, was received by President Patrice Talon and some top government officials.
On the entourage of the President were some of his political aides and six governors which include Babajide Sanwo-Olu (Lagos), Seyi Makinde (Oyo), AbdulRahman AbdulRasaq (Kwara), Nasir Idris (Kebbi), and Mohammed Umar Bago (Niger).
The event marks the third time Tinubu will meet Talon since the former became president.
They had first met each other on the sidelines of the summit on New Global Financing Pact in Paris, France, last month.
Both leaders later met at the 63rd Ordinary session of the Authority of Heads of State and Government of ECOWAS held in Guinea-Bissau and recently in Abuja over the political development in Niger Republic, where the Benin Republic President invited him for the anniversary.
President Tinubu had drawn the attention of the Beninese leader to the need to review and strengthen cultural, trade and economic relations between their two countries, highlighting joint border patrols by the Customs and harmonising regulations on the frontline.
