Group Honours Transporter With Excellence Award
A non-governmental organisation ,Coalition of Supporters of Good Governance and Democracy, has honoured, the Chairman of the Heavy Trucks Unit of the National Union of Road Transport Workers( NURTW), South- South, South East,Comrade Mohammed Giwa.
The colourful ceremony, which held in Port Harcourt recently attracted friends and business associates who accorded the recipient deserving respect.
Presenting the award to the recipient, the Coordinator of the group, Comrade Gershon Bobmanuel Achor said the choice of the transporter for the award was informed by the industrial peace and harmony he has maintained in Rivers State, and eulogised him for his contributions towards the peace and development of the State, and urged various groups doing business in the State to emulate him.
The coordinator said the State is happy with the union chairman’s efforts and ability to say the truth no matter who is involved, saying the group had decided to support and partner with him in ensuring that the prevailing peace in his area of operations is sustained.
In his remarks, Comrade Giwa thanked the group for finding him worthy of the award, stressing that it has added to the various awards he had garnered in the past, as it shows that the little contributions he has been making for the growth of the society are being noticed and appreciated.
“This award shows that the society appreciates what we have been doing. Our peace efforts are recognised and we pledge to show more support to the Rivers State Government just as we had done in the past to ensure that peace reigns and prevails. Our businesses can only thrive in a peaceful environment”, he said.
Giwa further noted that members of the union can attest that the immediate past Governor of the State, Chief Nyesom Wike did very well and carried them along, saying, “We want to assure the current Governor of the State, Sir Siminalayi Fubara that we will give him our total support. Our economic contributions to the State must improve because we have a Governor who cares for everyone irrespective of your state of origin”.
Earlier, the Secretary of the union, Comrade Lawal Mahmood had described the recipient as someone from a formidable group, contending that the current award bestowed upon the transporter was one of the best.
He said he lacked the appropriate words to appreciate the group for the gesture, describing the recipient as not only a boss but also a father to all who come around him.
“We have always enjoyed working with him because he gives listening ears to everyone and assists anyone whenever the need arises.
He apparently has no time for his family and devotes his time working for the common good of all”, he said.
