VC Tasks Profs On Modules To Boost Humanity, Economy
Nigerian Professors have been charged to develop modules/techniques that would boost the wellbeing of humanity and the economy of the nation.
They were further charged to come out of their cocoon to make themselves relevant in their fields of study.
Speaking while declaring open the International Conference, organised by the Faculty of Management Sciences, Ignatius Ajuru University of Education (IAUE), Rumuolumeni, Port Harcourt, the Acting Vice Chancellor, Prof. Onuchuku Okechuku said engaging in impactful researches profers solutions to some of the problems bedevilling the society and country at large.
He said: “Researches are meant to solve lots of problems confronting the society, but today, due to lack of dedication and commitment to research works on the part of most professors, our societies and country lack solutions to these problems be devilling the nation.
“Most of those research works already done end up at the libraries, rather than proffer solutions to some of the problems bedevilling the nation,” Prof Onuchuku added .
He described the theme: “DrivingBusiness Sustainability: The Future Of Management Sciences In the Tech-Driven Economy”, as apt and timely.
The Acting Vice Chancellor stated that during conferences such as this, the school.management tries to know who is who, among the professors, as they listen these scholars air their views on their various areas of specialisation.
He stressed that the school management is ever ready and willing to sponsor brilliant and creative professors to travel in and outside the country on impactful research that would contribute to the growth and economy of the society and country at large.
“Researches supposed to be problem solving, profering solutions to some of the problems bedevilling the society, instead of lying waste at the libraries.
“Conferences make professors visible so that people can know their special areas. It is aimed at encouraging and supporting Professors that have been spotted to be encouraged to attend conferences in and outside the country,” Onuchuku added.
Also speaking, the Dean Faculty Of Management Sciences, Prof. Loveday Okere, noted that business sustainability is key to national development, hence the essence while the theme was carefully chosen.
Okere thanked the IAUE management team for giving the faculty the opportunity to hold its first conference, adding that it will go along way to redirect the focus of all participants to think sustainability in all they do in life.

RIVCHPP Set To Take Health Insurance Scheme To Tertiary Institutions In Rivers State
Rivers State Contributory Health Protection Programme (RIVCHPP), the state health insurance agency, is set to take the health insurance scheme to schools, especially tertiary institutions, in the state.
This disclosure was made by the Executive Secretary/Chief Executive Officer of RIVCHPP, Dr. Vetty Rolegherighan Agala, when she led a team from RIVCHPP on an advocacy visit to the office of the Permanent Secretary, Rivers State Ministry of Education on Friday, 16th January 2026.
Dr. Agala, who solicited authorisation from the Ministry for RIVCHPP to write to the institutions under Ministry’s mandate so as to begin enrolment of students in the various schools , said that for the health insurance agency to expand universal health coverage of the state, then students need to be enrolled into the programme.
RIVCHPP’s Executive Secretary announced that the agency has also started talks with the State branch of Nigeria Association of Proprietors of Private Secondary Schools (NAPPSS) to ensure that no one in the state is left out from having the opportunity of accessing quality healthcare services without passing through financial hardship.
Dr. Agala also commended the innovative policies that the Permanent Secretary have brought to bear towards improving the educational exploits in the state, saying that the changes align to the interest and mandate of Governor Siminialayi Fubara stance on education.
RIVCHPP’s Executive Secretary appreciated the Permanent Secretary for giving the team audience, pledging her team’s dedication and commitment to clients’ satisfaction, calling on schools to embrace the S-SHIP package dedicated for the well-being of students in Rivers State.
In her remarks and response, the Permanent Secretary, Rivers State Ministry of Education, Dr.(Mrs. ) Azibaolanari Uzoma-Nwogu, who warmly welcomed the RIVCHPP team, promised to share with and disseminate all information about RIVCHPP to all public schools in the state so that the schools will be willing to give RIVCHPP opportunity to sensitise them on what RIVCHPP is all about and the benefits of signing up with RIVCHPP.
Dr. Uzoma-Nwogu advised RIVCHPP to be proactive and consistent in the mandate of providing affordable and quality health care to Rivers residents.
