Ohanaeze To Establish Liaison Offices In S’Africa, UK, Others
The leadership of apex Igbo socio-cultural organisation, Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, is to establish liaison offices in South Africa, United Kingdom, United States of America and China.
Newly inaugurated President General of Ohaneze Ndigbo, Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, made the disclosure, Monday, while addressing newsmen at the organization’s Secretariat, Trans-Ekulu Enugu.
The Ohanaeze President General explained that the move became necessary in order to facilitate cultural, educational and business interactions among the Igbos and the people of the countries concerned.
“There are thousands of Americans descent who have expressed their desire to be part of the Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide.
“During my tenure, I will make every effort to integrate them fully into Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide”, he promised.
Iwuanyanwu continued that, “l must frankly confess that I did not nurture the ambition to be the President General of Ohaneze Ndigbo Worldwide. Instead I had the ambition of becoming the president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
“I contested for the Presidency on three occasions but I did not succeed. I took my loses in good composure knowing fully well that as a Christian all powers and promotion come from God.
“But today destiny has placed squarely on my shoulders the duty of leading the Igbos as the President General of Ohaneze Ndigbo Worldwide. I therefore have a duty to valiantly defend Igbo course and I promise Ime – Obi and all Igbo people that by the grace of God I will not fail them”.
Stressing the importance of establishing industries in Igbo land, Chief Iwuanyanwu further said “many years ago, Eastern Nigeria had a lot of industries including Dunlop Tire production, Textile industries, Iron and steel industries, Cement industries, plastic industries, Asbestos industries, Glass industries, Breweries etc.
