Ogoni Clean-Up: FG’s Handover Of 39 New Remediation Lots To Contractors Excites Eleme People
The Federal Government has assured that the implementation of recommendations of the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) report on Ogoniland would be holistically pursued, and religiously delivered for the benefit of the people.
The government made this commitment at Eleme, headquarters of Eleme Local Government Area, last Saturday, during the official handover of 39 new remediation lots to contractors for the clean-up of polluted sites in Ogoniland.
While performing the handover ceremony, Minister of Environment, Mohammed Abdullahi, assured the people of speedy completion of the 2nd phase of the Ogoni clean-up by the Hydrocarbon Pollution Remediation Projects (HYPREP).
Abdullahi charged the various contracting firms to ensure effective delivery of the assigned tasks within the period specified in the contractual agreement, as everything has been made available by government to ensure the smooth take off and completion of the project in the best interest of the people.
Responding, Chairman of Eleme Local Government Council, Chief Obarilomate Ollor, assured the minister of the Council’s support and good working relationship throughout the project duration.
In his remarks, the Oneh Eta Ogale XI and Oneh Nchia X, Chief G.M.B. Okpabi, also charged the contractors to be people-oriented by ensuring that the Ogale community feels the impact of the project in the area.
He advised to proactively implement a robust Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme, as he assured of the readiness of the people to provide the enabling environment for the smooth undertaking of the project.

RSG INAUGURATES ARMED FORCES REMEMBRANCE DAY COMMITTEE
The Rivers State Government has inaugurated a Central Planning Committee to organize the celebration of the 2026 Armed Forces Remembrance Day (AFRD) in the State.
The committee was formally inaugurated by the Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Benibo Anabraba in Port Harcourt, last Thursday.
Dr Anabraba who also serves as Chairman of the Committee
highlighted the State Government’s deep appreciation for the sacrifices of Nigeria’s fallen heroes who laid down their lives for the nation’s peace and unity.
“These heroes have given their lives for the security and peace of our nation and deserve to be celebrated. The Armed Forces Remembrance Day is an opportunity to show our gratitude for their sacrifice,” he said.
Dr. Anabraba further extended recognition to all Security Agencies in the State, emphasizing the importance of the event in appreciating their contributions to national security and sovereignty.
The annual Armed Forces Remembrance Day, observed on January 15 across the country is dedicated to remember Nigeria’s departed soldiers and honouring the nation’s veterans.
