Unity College Celebrates Golden Jubilee In PH, Other Cities, Jan
The Federal Government College, Kaduna, Old Students’ Association, Port Harcourt Chapter, has mapped out plans to celebrate the institution’s 50th Anniversary in January, next year.
National President of the Association, Seyi Gambo, disclosed this while speaking with journalists in Port Harcourt, recently.
He said the college has seven chapters in Lagos, Ibadan, Port Harcourt, Kaduna, Abuja, Kano, and the United Kingdom, adding that the celebration will start in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, with a festival of drums performance and come to a climax in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital.
According to him, “all of us that attended the institution are from different parts of Nigeria. There was no discrimination whether Christian or Muslim, we are one family”.
Speaking in the same vein, President of Port Harcourt Chapter of the association, Nedo Tamuno, said that unity schools in Nigeria was first conceived and implemented by the then Prime Minister of Nigeria, Alhaji AbubakarTafawa Balewa, when it was discovered that most of the problems in the country was due to mistrust and ignorance of the background of others.
He explained further that the reason for the creation of unity colleges, among others, is to guarantee and promote national cohesion and integration among Nigerian children.
Tamuno admonished all alumnus to get prepared for the golden jubilee anniversary celebration, noting that the event is expected to bring together all alumnus for the betterment of all.
