Community Rededicates Self To God
Obonoma Community in Akuku Toru Local Government Area of Rivers State has rededicated itself to God.
The rededication ceremony took place during the grand finale of a three-day fasting and prayer session organised by the Amanyanabo of Obonoma Kingdom, HRM Enenibofori Dateme and his Council of Chiefs in partnership with the Gospel Ministers Forum, Obonoma.
The crusade has as its theme “Oh Lord Heal, Restore Our Land”.
Speaking at the crusade, King Dateme blamed the relative backwardness in his community on some ungodly practices in the past such as idol worshipping, killings, among others.
The monarch who said Obonoma community has existed for over 500 years, recalled that his immediate predecessor was among those killed in the community but thanked God that the community has since dissociated itself from such vices.
He, therefore, sought God’s forgiveness for the community.
“We have not done well in the sight of God; today, we have gathered ourselves to plead for forgiveness from God.
“We are using the crusade to change the narrative as the community will no longer be known as a pagan community but a community that knows God.
“We will be known as a kingdom that is progressive, that is prosperous, “he said.
In his sermon entitled “Filling the Gap”, the International Director of Greater Evangelism (World) Crusade, Pastor Isaac Valentine Olori, said it was wrong for people to continue to associate royalty with idolatory.
He likened the problems of the community to that of Nigeria which, according to him, is backward because of the evils being committed at different levels of governance in the country.
The cleric listed idolatory, sexual immorality as some of the evils the community had denounced.
Olori also warned the chiefs and other privileged persons in the community against oppressing the poor among them, saying such act attracts the wrath of God.
NOTE: This story supercedes the earlier report published last Monday.
