‘Rapid Growth Dev Demands Synergy In Academic Courses’
In a bid to ensure proper growth, development and social order in the country, critical stakeholders of the society have been told to encourage interdisplinarity of courses through synergy of the different courses,
Speaking while delivering his lecture at the 42nd Inaugural Lecture of the Ignatius Ajuru University of Education (IAUE), Rumuolumeni, Port Harcourt, with the theme: Interdisciplinary And Social Order In Nigeria: A Social Jurisprudential Perspective, the Guest Lecturer and Professor of Sociology (Institutional Analysis) at the University, Prof. Simeon Tamunoibuomi Igbanibo stated that there must be interdisciplinarity of courses, through the synergy of different courses for there to exist order in the society.
“The problems of brazeness and inequality, use of power by visitors of universities are cankerworms that always heat the learning ambience of most citadels of learning. When the powers of the Senate and management of universities are whittled down and suffused with draconian policies, most ivory towers would not live up to expectation.
“This case assuage the minds of administrators in respect of functions of the sections of the universities that have serious roles to play.
In his recommendation, he said transformation leaders should be in power to implement the findings of interdisciplinarity researchers.
“To ensure rapid growth and development in the country, there must be synergies between the different courses. That is the modus operadi and vivendi of developed nations that have carved a niche for themselves in this period of digitalisation
“The trajectory of developmental strides is hinged on interdisplinarity that will usher in new era of social order that shall engender equity, good conscience, consciousness and development.
On his part, the IAUE Vice Chancellor, Prof Okechuku Onuchuku while commending Prof Igbanibo for his well delivered lecture, said it was important to apply the laws correctly in order to ensure equity and justice in the society.
According to him, “The Inaugural Lecturer has tried to explain to us today that in every society there is usually societal problems and in trying to solve these problems, we must use what he referred to as interdisciplinary approach. One particular discipline he dwelt so much on is Law and that law will always ensure equity, fairness, justice, and that for societal problems to be solved, the application of our laws must be observed and duly followed in all ramifications.
“This means that if we apply our laws correctly, this would ensure social order,” Prof Onuchuku said.
