Crash Victims Day: FRSC Cautions Motorists In Delta
The Delta State Sector Command of Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has cautioned motorists against reckless driving to avoid accidents and attendant loss of lives.
Sector Commander, Mr Udeme Eshiet, gave the advice at a ceremony to commemorate the 2022 World Day of Remembrance of Road Traffic Crash Victims, on Wednesday in Asaba.
According to him, the menace of Road Traffic Crashes (RTC) should be fought headlong.
“We urge the government to support all activities to ensure that RTCs are reduced.
“We also urge motorists to do all they can to ensure that speed limit devices are installed in their vehicles, as speed accounts for the greater percentage of traffic crashes on our roads.
“Anytime there is a crash involving speed somebody must die.
“More than 1.3 million people die yearly through traffic crashes, and very soon road traffic crashes will become the leading cause of deaths in the world,” the Sector Commander said.
Eshiet therefore called on motorists to embrace safety culture and take issues of safety as everybody’s business.
He also urged agencies involved in traffic management to partner with FRSC to reduce crashes during the festive season.
“Festive periods are always busy periods every year, there is need to be cautious and play along the ethics of driving.
“Avoid over speeding, shun drink and drive habit, stop disobeying the traffic rules while on the road to arrive safely at your destinations.
“Very soon traffic volume on our roads will increase, we need every support to ensure that we have safe and glorious ember month,” Eshiet said.
Similarly, Mr Fatai Bakare, Deputy Corp Commander, Operations, advised motorists to avoid competition on the highway.
“Highways are not for competition, let us avoid speeding, over-loading and all forms of distraction while driving,” he added.
The Tide’s source reports that the theme of this year’s day is “JUSTICE” while the slogan is: “Remember, Support, Act”.
