HYPREP Poised To Start Livelihood Programme For Ogonis
The Hydrocarbon Pollution Remediation Project (HYPREP) says the process of attending to the livelihood need programme in Ogoni land has commenced.
HYPREP’s Project Coordinator, Dr. Ferdinard Giadom, dropped the hint at an event organised by the project to celebrate this year’s World Environment Day in Bori on Monday, with the theme, ’Only One Earth’.
He said the essence of the programme is to expose and train the people on sustainable skills that will earn them deserving and sustainable livelihoods in Ogoni land.
Giadom also said the process of harmonising public health issues as recommended in the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) Report, to find out lasting solutions in the communities, will commence soon, as medical experts will be fully on ground to carry out medical reports of the people in various communities.
On his part, the Gbenemene of Tai Kingdom and President of the Supreme Council of Ogoni Traditional Rulers, King Godwin Giniwa appealed to the Federal Government to keep to the promise it made to the people of Ogoni land.
Also speaking at the event, the Chairman of Khana Local Government Council, Dr. Bariere Thomas commended the efforts of the HYPREP Project Coordinator, adding that projects initiated by HYPREP in the area would be protected by the people of Ogoni land.
The high point of the event was the inauguration of an Environment Club by the HYPREP Project Coordinator.
