Expert Tasks FG On Women’s Representation In Governance
A Management expert in Rivers State, Mrs Florence Babalola, has urged the Federal Government to improve the ratio of women participation in governance.
Speaking with The Tide recently in Port Harcourt, Babalola said the ratio ought to have been increased to a double digit as against the current seven percent.
Noting that the ratio is practically low, she said, “as a matter of fact, we need to impress and encourage the government to improve it.
“Even if we cannot attain the 50-50 percent, they should at least improve it to a double digit percentage. It could be 30-70 as against the seven percent now.
“National Assembly, Senate and even in the government parastatal/agencies it is still a single digit. Women occupy only about three percent.
“It should be gradually increased and women too should support each other. At the polling booth, Women rarely vote for their colleagues,” she said.
Babalola continued that the choice of celebrating with women who are in positions of trust remain remarkable.
“We are appealing to the government to increase women’s participation and representation in governance of the country for posterity”, she said.
