Group Hails Wike Over Rector’s Appointment
A foremost Socio-cultural and non-governmental organisation in Babbe Kingdom of Khana Local Government Area in Ogoni ethnic nationality, under the auspices of Babbe Links, has applauded the Rivers State Governor, Chief Nyesom Wike over the confirmation of Dr Ledum Gwara, an illustrious son of Babbe, as the substantive rector of Ken Saro-Wiwa Polytechnic, Bori.
Speaking to newsmen shortly after a thanksgiving and dedication ceremony of the body, held at the Church of God Mission, Bori, recently, the President of the group, Comrade Emmanuel Aanee, described the appointment of Gwara as a step in the right direction.
He expressed confidence in the ability of the new rector to take the academic citadel to a higher pedestal of excellence in the delivery of its statutory mandate of developing basic skills and manpower in the society.
He said, “the people of Babbe are well-pleased with Wike for confirming Gwara who is a worthy son of Babbe and member of Babbe Links as the substantive rector of Ken Saro-Wiwa Polytechnic.Given the pedigree of Gwara as a distinguished and accomplished academic and technocrat, we believe strongly that he will bring his wealth of experience to bear and take the Polytechnic to greater heights.”
Aanee also lauded the efforts of the Khana Local Government Area, Dr Bariere Thomas in restoring peace in Khana communities, and urged the chairman not to be deterred in his efforts to ensure that total peace and security was restored in Khana.
He assured the partnership of the body with the Khana Local Government authorities in promoting peace and development in the area, and urged youths in Ogoni not to indulge in violence and other destructive tendencies but embrace peace and creative endeavours such as skills development to better their lives.
The president also stated that thanksgiving and dedication service was a yearly programme to seek divine protection for members of the organisation in their collective aspirations and endeavours.

RSG INAUGURATES ARMED FORCES REMEMBRANCE DAY COMMITTEE
The Rivers State Government has inaugurated a Central Planning Committee to organize the celebration of the 2026 Armed Forces Remembrance Day (AFRD) in the State.
The committee was formally inaugurated by the Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Benibo Anabraba in Port Harcourt, last Thursday.
Dr Anabraba who also serves as Chairman of the Committee
highlighted the State Government’s deep appreciation for the sacrifices of Nigeria’s fallen heroes who laid down their lives for the nation’s peace and unity.
“These heroes have given their lives for the security and peace of our nation and deserve to be celebrated. The Armed Forces Remembrance Day is an opportunity to show our gratitude for their sacrifice,” he said.
Dr. Anabraba further extended recognition to all Security Agencies in the State, emphasizing the importance of the event in appreciating their contributions to national security and sovereignty.
The annual Armed Forces Remembrance Day, observed on January 15 across the country is dedicated to remember Nigeria’s departed soldiers and honouring the nation’s veterans.
