Ebeku reminded them that the state governor’s ban on the collection of school charges or fees for whatever purpose was still in force.
According to the commissioner, for emphasis, no principal or staff is authorised to collect charges for the making of school uniforms or for admission or any other purpose whatsoever.
In a statement made available to The Tide, by the Special Assistant on Media to Hon. Commissioner for Education, Faustina Eugene-Nwanekwu, Ebeku gave the warning during a routine monitoring of schools in the state capital, Wednesday, as the new school year enters its second week.
According to him, “The Government of Rivers State has zero tolerance for extortion and anyone caught will face appropriate sanctions.’
Addressing some parents and students in the schools visited, Ebeku noted that admissions into public primary and secondary schools in the state were free.

He reiterated that the abolition of all forms of fees in public schools subsists and school heads and staff under investigation presently would be duly disciplined, if found culpable.
