Wike, First Governor To Visit Boue Clan-Ex-Lecturer …Begs Gov To Construct Boue Bridge
A former lecturer at the University of Port Harcourt, Apostle (Dr) Sonpie Kpone-Tonwe, has expressed delight over the bold and courageous step taken by Rivers State Governor, Chief Nyesom Wike to restore and promote peace and harmony in some violence-torn communities in Ogoniland, contending that since the creation of the State, Governor Wike is the first and only chief executive to visit and tour Boue Clan in Khana Local Government Area of the State.
Dr Kpone-Tonwe, who gave the indication in a statement said the unannounced visit of the Governor to Boue Clan on Saturday, August 24, 2019, was “a courageous act by a ruler, who is not only on a mission to solve problems but also with a caring heart for his subjects in all parts of the state.”
He noted that “ the visit was particularly courageous not only because the area was under attack by gun-carrying dissident youths but also because the terrain and the roads were harzardous.”
According to the former lecturer, it was particularly heartening when the people saw that the Governor was not afraid to drive across that rickety Boue Bridge which forms the only link between Kono Boue and the other towns of Boue Clan.
The former university teacher further indicated that as an indigene of the area, he had for over seven years not visited his house, which he said is located across the bridge, because of the risk of crossing the bridge.
“That is why I commend our able Governor for daring to drive across that bridge to tour the whole of Boue Clan, thus, becoming the first and only Governor of Rivers State to tour the entire Boue Clan in Rivers State,” he said with glee.
Dr Kpone-Tonwe, who would be 80 years old in February, 2020, therefore, appealed to Governor Wike to go beyond the historic and notable visit and quckly take steps to construct the Boue Bridge and the link roads in the area.
“ How I wish I could easily cross the Boue Bridge to celebrate my 80th birthday in my own house in Boue Clan,” he declared, and also stressed the need for the governor to establish several security posts to secure the area.
