RSU PG Students Set To Contribute To State Economy …Appeal For Grants, Bursary
Post Graduate students in the Rivers State University say they are ready to contribute to the economic transformation of the state.
They appealed to the state Governor, Chief Nyesom Wike, to appoint their members into the state economic team, as they are ready to contribute towards enhancing the economic fortunes of the state.
The association covers all doctoral, masters and post graduate students in the institution.
Consequently, they also appealed for payment of bursaries and grants to students as a way of boosting academic excellence and research.
The appeal was made public in a letter of appeal by the Rivers State University Post Graduate Students Association (RSUPGSA) and signed by its President, Comrade Shepherd Fubara and made available to The Tide, yesterday.
The student body said their appeal is coming after several attempts to meet the governor had failed, as they congratulated him over his electoral victory.
According to them, provision of bursary to students would cushion the economic burden of students and aid indigent ones in completing their academic programmes.
On the need to provide research grant to students, they averred that, “there is a symbiotic nexus between well-managed research outcomes and socio-economic and political progress of any society.”
They assured the governor of utilizing funds approved for research appropriately, promising that, “We have young, sharp, energetic, intelligent and brilliant students who are willing to undertake the conduct of research in any sphere of life for the general good of our state.”
The RSU PG Association used the medium to express appreciation to the governor for gracing the inauguration of the body through the Chief of Staff, Engr. Emeka Woke, last year.
