NOA Decries Electoral Violence In Rivers
The National Orientation Agency, Rivers State has condemned the incidences of violence recorded in parts of the State in the just concluded Presidential and National Assembly elections held last Saturday which resulted in the unnecessary and painful loss of lives and properties.
The Acting State Director, Mr. Young M. Ayotamuno during a review of the just completed Presidential and National Assembly election at the NOA State headquarters in Port Harcourt condoles with those affected and regrets that in spite of the concerted efforts by the Agency in sensitizing and mobilizing the masses to cast their vote peacefully during the elections, some unpatriotic elements in the state unfortunately chose to use this civic duty to unleash mayhem on innocent and law abiding citizens in parts of the state, especially in Akuku Toru, Degema and Andoni Local Government Areas
The Agency unequivocally condemns this act of violence which no doubt deprived many citizens the opportunity of exercising their constitutional rights of exercising their franchise.
The NOA boss called on security agencies to discharge their duties professionally and remain non-partisan and enjoined Traditional rulers, religious and political leaders as well as other stakeholders to prevail on their followers to shun acts inimical to the peace and security of the state at all times.
While commending the people of Rivers State for turning out enmass in the last elections, the Agency urges the people not to be deterred by the antics of some desperate and self seeking political actors who are bent on causing confusion in the state.
