Tradermoni: INEC To Investigate FG’s Possible Campaign Finance Violations
The Chairman, Independent National Electoral commission, Prof. Yakubu Mahmoud has said that the commission would investigate of possible violation of campaign finance laws by the federal government through its Trader Moni Scheme.
He stated that the electoral agency has a mechanism for tracking campaign finance violations by the candidates and their parties, adding that INEC would study public comments on the scheme and assess whether or not the FG violated the campaign finance laws.
Mahmoud said this in response to questions from journalists, yesterday after a presentation on the forthcoming polls at a strategy session of the Federal Road Safety Corps Zonal Commanders at the FRSC headquarters, Abuja, presided over by the Corps Marshall, Dr. Boboye Oyeyemi.
Many Nigerians, including a civil society organisation, Transparency International, had described the TraderMoni Scheme through which the FG shared N10,000 to traders and artisans, as a form of vote-buying.
