The Senior Special Assistant (SSA) to the Rivers State Governor on Physically Challenged Matters, Mr. Itekena Altraide has urged all local government chairmen to implement the Rivers State Person With Disability Welfare(Enhancement) Act of 2012.
Mr Altraide stated this when he paid a courtesy visit to the Executive Chairman of Ogba /Egbema /Ndoni Local Government Area (ONELGA) ,Chief Ifeanyi Victor Odili.
According to Mr Altraide, persons with disability should be included in capacity enhancing governance and other life developing activities in the state and the nation at large. Mr Altraide called on all councils to ensure that public infrastructure and building plans are certified to be disability compliant before any relevant approval is granted.
The SSA reiterated the need for all local government chairmen to appoint physically-challenged persons as Special Assistant on Disability Matters to enable the accessibility and inclusion of persons with disability in governance and other developmental activities.
He however appreciated the ONELGA Chairman carving a niche for himself in the minds of persons with disability in the World.
