Lecturer Wants FG To Declare Emergency In Vocational Education
An Associate Professor of Industrial Education at the Ignatius Ajuru University of Education, Port Harcourt, Rivers State, Dr. Ogundu Isaac has urged the Federal Government to declare a state of emergency in vocational education with a view of meeting the social and economic demands of people in the country.
Ogundu also advocated for the abrogation of technical colleges nationwide and replace its name with vocational colleges as to meet up with present realities in the country.
He stated this while speaking with journalists at the 3rd annual conference organized by the Faculty of Vocational and Technical Education, IAUOE, with the theme: Vocational Skills Acquisition Leveraging, Unemployment, Social Vices, Food Insecurity and Technological Retardation for Sustainable Development in Nigeria” held at the institution in Port Harcourt, recently.
Dr. Ogundu who is also the Siwess Director at IAUOE opined that the mirage of societal vices
As well as unemployment currently in the country could be addressed through revolution in vocational education.
According to him, the conference called on education administrators to among other things use skills to tackle the problem of unemployment and poverty bedeviling the country and added that there was urgent need to revamp all the vocational institutions in the country in other to enhance the living standard of the people.
