Aguma’s Death: Jonathan, Saraki, Tambuwal Condole Wike
Last Week, Rivers State Government House, Port Harcourt hosted three top personalities: former President, Dr Goodluck Jonathan, Senate President, Dr Bukola Saraki; and Sokoto State Governor, Aminu Tambuwal.
The top national figures who visited Wike on seperate days came to condole the Governor and people of the state over the death of the state Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Emmanuel Aguma (SAN).
Each of them extolled the stirling qualities of the late legal ICON, saying he contributed his best to the state and national development.
The Sokoto State Governor, Aminu Tambuwal who visited penultimate Sunday described Aguma as “a rare gem, excellent lawyer and good family man who left worthy legacies.
“He was a very vibrant, very intelligent legal huminary who not only served Rivers State but the Federation”, he said.
On Friday, the Senate President, Bukola Saraki who was accompanied by Senator Ben Murray Bruce, former chairman of PDP, Dr Kawu Baraje, Dr Doyin Kupe, and former Governor of Kogi State, Governor Captain Idris Wada, also condoled the Governor and people of the state.
Issues surrounding the late Attorney-General continued to dominate activities. On Wednesday, Governor Wike led members of the State Executive Council to the Port Harcourt Airport, Omagwa, to receive the remains of the Attorney General who died in a London Hospital.
The Governor has announced September 14 and 15, 2018 as burial days of the diseased.
On Thursday, Governor Wike urged all the Presidential aspirants of PDP to forge a common front to sack president Muhammadu Buhari in 2019 and end what he called the present suffering Nigerians were passing through in his administration.
He made the call when a presidential aspirant and former governor of Sokoto State, Attahiru Bafarawa, paid him a condolence visit over the death of Aguma.
Wike said: “What we are saying is that all of us must put our heads together to remove this government that does not mean well for Nigerians.”
Another major event in Brick House last week was the visit of Ambassador of Ireland to Nigeria, Sean Hoy and the European Union Ambassador to Nigeria, Mr Ketil Karlson.
The ambassadors met with Governor Wike and condemned the violence that married the Phalg III constituency election.
While Hoy called on the Federal Government to take steps to ensure that elections are conducted within the rule of law, Karlson urged relevant authorities to check a repeat of the violence that married the phalga III constituency election.
The Irish ambassador who noted that they were in Rivers State to participate in a programme organised by INEC to improve youth participation in elections, urged the youth to register to exercise their right to vote.
Wike on Saturday announcement the release of N500 million to the management of Ignatius Ajuru University of Education, Rumuolumeni .
He made the announced at the convocation ceremony held in the school and reiterated the commitment of his administration to continue to expand both access and quality of education at tertiary level by injecting more resources for provision of necessary infrastructure.
At the event, the university’s main Library, named after Dame Patience Jonathan, was unveiled. There were also commissioning of Nyesom Ezenwo Wike Centre of Excellence among other projects.

LP Crisis: Ex-NWC Member Dumps Dumps Abure Faction
Mr Ojukwu, who recently returned to the interim National Working Committee led by Senator Esther Nenadi Usman, noted that the party had 34 elected members in the House of Representatives, eight Senators, and 80 members at the state Houses of Assembly after the 2023 general elections.
“Now we lost all of them,” he said. “I don’t think we have as many as five members in the National Assembly.”
The former national officer of the LP talked to journalists in Abuja and said he chose to join the caretaker committee led by Senator Nenadi-Usman because they are now the officially recognized leaders of the Party.
“I chose to work with the caretaker committee to help save the Labour Party, for the benefit of the party. I also want to use this chance to ask my colleagues at the national, state, and local government levels to come together and help rebuild our party.
“Another election is around the corner. We lost everything we have. They have left to other political parties. So I’ll reach out to all my friends in the other group to get together and work on making this party stronger again.
“The caretaker committee has formed a reconciliation committee. Let’s come together and talk so that we can restore the first opposition political party in Nigeria.”
Mr Ojukwu, who was part of the Julius Abure’s group, said there are no more factions in the LP.
He added, “There is a court ruling, and since it is valid, the right people are in the correct positions.”
He urged Barr Abure and others to drop the legal cases they have filed because they are not helping the party.
“Litigations are killing political parties”, he said. “They’ve seen many political parties disappear because of legal battles, and the Labor Party is losing support every day, which makes me feel sad.”
Mr Ojukwu said he did not think joining the Senator Nenadi-Usman’s NWC was a betrayal of the Abure group, describing himself as “the oxygen” of that faction.
“I’m with this group because of the verdict. But I never betrayed anybody. Rather, I was betrayed,” he added.
