RVHA Okays Implementation Of Budgets
The Rivers State House of Assembly (RVHA) has said that its recent inquest into the accounts of various institutions of the state government has proved that the state budgets of 2016 and 2017 were implemented accordingly and in line with the law.
The Chairman, House Committee on Public Accounts, Hon Major Jack gave the hint in a chat with newsmen in Port Harcourt.
He said his committee’s investigation into the accounts of some institutions including Rivers State University, Port Harcourt Polytechnics, Rivers State Universal Basic Education, among others have shown that the administration of Governor Nyesom Wike has set a template for transparency and accountability in all the state’s institutions and boards.
Jack said from investigations so far conducted, the Assembly Committees were convinced that the accountability forum was successful.
He said, the committee would not fail to recommend appropriate disciplinary measures against any institution or board found quilty of fraudulent acts.
Jack warned the authorities of the state’s institutions and parastatals against the misuse of funds, saying that the Assembly was doing everything possible to ensure that the state’s funds allocated to various institutions were judiciously utilised.
The lawmaker used the opportunity to debunk the insinuation in some quarters that the state administration did not have any working budget.
He said both the state’s 2016 and 2017 budgetary estimates were submitted by the executive arm of the state earlier enough, and that the Legislative Assembly took time to look into the Appropriation Bills before them passage as working budgets of the state.
