4,000 Get Free Healthcare Service In Rivers

Over 4,000 people have benefitted from Rivers State Foundation Incorporated, USA’s free medical outreach programme in the state.
The six-day free health programme, which began at Rumuepirikom Primary Health Centre in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area in the state, last Friday, is part of activities marking the Rivers Golden Jubilee celebration and complements gover-nment’s efforts in effective healthcare delivery.
Speaking at the event, the President of the foundation, Dr Suanu B. Wikina, said they deemed it necessary to complements government effort to promote good healthcare delivery and to participate in the ongoing Golden Jubilee celebration in the state.
“We, in the Diaspora thought it necessary to add healthcare delivery to mark the Golden Jubilee celebration of the state. The areas patients benefitted from the free programme are; gynaecology, eye and dental surgeries”, Wikina said.
According to him, the foundation in conjunction with the state government and the Nigeria Medical Association (NMA) in the state are partnering in the healthcare delivery programme.
“We want to be deeply involved in the healthcare delivery in conjunction with the state government and NMA, so that those who do not have money will take advantage of it.
“Besides, we are poised to spread the free medical outreach programme to every part of the state”, he stated.
He used the forum to thank the state Governor, Chief Nyesom Wike for creating the enabling environment for them to carry out the programme, saying that the free medical outreach will be a continuous one.
Dignitaries present at the programme were, Dr Datonye Dennis Alasigha, Dr Soni Ajie, Chairman, sub-committee on health of the Golden Jubilee, members of UASAMA, Ekpeye USA, Pro-Health International and Amake Timi.
