Elechi Amadi’s Burial Begin This Week
The Rivers State Government will officially kick-off activities marking the burial of the literary icon, Captain Elechi Amadi, today with stage performance of two of his notable plays, Isiburu and Great Ponds commencing 4pm at Obi Wali International Conference Centre, Port Harcourt.
According to a programme of events by the State burial Committee, Tuesday, 29th November, 2016, there will be launching of Elechi Amadi’s biography, Book fair and Arts Exhibition at Civic Centre, Port Harcourt by 11 am.
Two events; Morning Literary Day and Service of Songs/Night of Tributes will hold on Wednesday, 10am – 3pm and 5pm – 7pm, respectively at the Civic Centre.
On Thursday, December 1, 2016, there will be a Colloqium marking academic presentation/Award of Prizes for winners of Mathematics and Physics competition.
According to the programme signed by the burial committee Chairman, Hon. Frank Owhor, and Secretary, Sir David Briggs, a Mock Exco in honour of the late literary giant will hold at the Cabinet Chambers of Government House, Port Harcourt, between 10am-11am on Friday, 2nd December, 2016.
Same Friday, the late Elechi Amadi’s body will be received by Ogbakor Ikwerre Convention World Wide by 12 noon – 1pm at Obiri Ikwerre.
By 2pm – 3pm the body will be received by Ogbakor Aluu, while his Maternal family will receive the body between 3.30pm – 4.30pm.
Thereafter, the body will lie in-state at the Family Home from 5pm – dawn.
There will also be Praise Night/ANA Night same Friday at his compound, Mbodo Aluu.
According to the programme, the burial proper takes place Saturday, 3rd December, 2016 by 10am at his family compound while Thanksgiving Service follows next day, Sunday, 4th December, 2016 at St. Paul’s Anglican Church, Aluu by 10am.
