‘Murder Of Five Policemen, Tragic’
The Rivers State Police Command has condemned as tragic and barbaric, the murder of five policemen by unknown gunmen in the Okogbe area of Ahoada West Local Government Area of the state.
Confirming the ambush and murder of the personnel of the Mobile Police Force at Oyakhama Junction, Okogbe on the East-West Road, the Rivers State Police Command Public Relations Officer, Ahmad Muhammad, described the act as “tragic and barbaric”.
Muhammad said: “We are deeply pained by the senseless and barbaric killing of our colleagues, who were ambushed in the early hours of the day.
“Sadly, this tragedy again demonstrated the enormous calamities we face and witness in the course of our job. We put our lives on the line every day to confront crime and violence in our communities,” the police image maker added.
The spokesman assured the community that the crime will not go unpunished, saying, “We will stop at nothing to bring the perpetrators of this dastardly act to justice.”
The Tide reports that the five policemen, who were on patrol duty, were in the early hours of Monday, shot dead by unknown gunmen at Oyakhama Junction, Okogbe along the East-West Road in Ahoada West Local Government Area of Rivers State.
According to sources from the community, the policemen, who had been on a routine patrol of the area, were said to have been ambushed by the hoodlums who opened fire on sighting them.
