Embrace Peace For Sustainable Dev, Omoku Youth Told
The youth of Omoku
community in Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Local Government Area of Rivers State have been charged to maintain peace and order, and avoid violent confrontations so as to fast-track the sustainable development of the local government area.
The Rivers State Director, National Orientation Agency (NOA), Mr Oliver Wolugbom, gave the charge when he received the leadership of Omoku Youth Association (OYA), in his office in Port Harcourt.
Wolugbom said that he had received series of frightening reports from some local government areas, especially Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni, on the rising cases of criminality which now portrays the state in bad light.
The NOA director stressed the need for the youth to embrace peace, as according to him, without peace, there cannot be any meaningful development.
He further assured the youth of his readiness to partner with them by devising ways that would bring about lasting peace in the affected local government areas.
Wolugbom said: “most of the youth involved in killings, kidnappings, robbery and raping are bringing curse to themselves and their families. All stakeholders must be committed to bringing lasting peace to these areas.”
Also speaking, President of the Omoku Youth Association, Comrade Kingsley Ogwumike, expressed appreciation to the NOA boss, for the audience granted them, while thanking Governor Nyesom Wike for lifting the ban on youth activities.
He said that the governor’s wise decision had helped to gradually restore peace to Omoku.
Ogwumike used the opportunity to call for a more cordial relationship between the military and the civilian population in order to restore confidence, peace and fast track development, while expressing regret at the neglect of the communities by the multinational companies operating in the area.
He also appealed to multinational companies operating in their communities to provide employment for the youth as they were ready to work hand-in-hand with the government to promote peace and sustainable development.
