FG, RSG Partner On Mines, Solid Mineral Dev
The Rivers Government
and the Federal Ministry of Mines and olid Minerals have resolved to collaborate on the issues of sand dredging and solid mineral development in the state.
Commissioner for Environment, Professor Roseline Konya disclosed this in a press release made available to newsmen in Port Harcourt shortly after a brief meeting with officials of the Federal Ministry of Solid Minerals Development.
Prof. Konya said that all grey areas that hitherto caused conflicts and disagreements between the state and the Federal Ministry of Mines and Solid Minerals had been resolved.
She said that henceforth both Ministries would work hand in hand to ensure that all stakeholders from the Federal, State and Local Governments benefitted maximally from the operations of the sector.
According to her, the successful resolution of the matter was hinged on the provisions of the 2007 Mining Act by the National Assembly and especially the 2015 Gazette by the former Minister of Finance, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo Iweala which clearly included the participation of the state and local governments in Mining activities.
The Commissioner also called for adequate security to enable staff carryout their duties without harassment or intimidation.
It would be recalled that, the meeting was a continuation of the series of meetings between officials of the Federal Ministry of Mines and its Environment counterpart in Rivers State.
