Banigo Charges Women Professionals On Integrity
The Rivers State Deputy
Governor, Dr Ipalibo Banigo, has charged women professionals to show commitment and integrity in the performance of their duties to serve as catalyst in their careers and impact positively on society.
Banigo gave the charge at the weekend, when the Association of Professional Women Engineers in Nigeria (APWEN), Rivers State chapter, paid her a courtesy visit in Government House, Port Harcourt.
The deputy governor noted that women were making their marks in several fields of human endeavour particularly, areas that where hitherto seen as exclusive profession for men, and advised women professionals to demonstrate patriotism, commitment and passion for their careers.
She urged professional women to purge themselves of quacks and bad eggs, to check the incidence of collapsed buildings like the Lekki building collapse, the Synagogue Church experience and other similar tragic occurrences in the country.
“As women professionals, competence, transparency, honesty and integrity should be given priority in your dealings while maintaining a balance between work and home,” Banigo insisted.
Banigo reiterated that the Governor Nyesom Wike’s administration appreciates the place of women in his administration, adding that it is for that reason that it has appointed many females into positions of trust.
The deputy governor advised that career talks and counseling should be organized in schools to encourage female students to appreciate engineering as a profession, and promised to collaborate with the association to award scholarship to indigent female students of engineering.
Earlier, Chairperson, Port Harcourt Chapter of the Association of Professional Women Engineers in Nigeria (APWEN), Engr. Anthonia Ohagwa, had said the body has organized conferences both locally and internationally to help boost and update female engineers to be at their best.
She expressed readiness to partner with the state government to encourage students to take interest in engineering by giving scholarships while pledging their support to the Wike-led administration.
