Emolga CTC Boss Denies Owing 3 Months Salaries
The Caretaker
Committee Chairman, Emohua Local Government Council, Hon. Bright Ikonwa, has said that the council’s workers are being owed only February salary as against three months salary as alleged by the workers.
The council’s chairman in a phone chat with The Tide over the weekend, said those that protested at the council’s headquarters recently were not true workers of the council.
Ikonwa, pointed out that the majority of the protesting workers were members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) who fraudulently found themselves in the council.
He said part of the delay in the February salary was an attempt by the council’s leadership to properly identify the bona fide staff of the council.
Though, he was not specific on when the February salary would be paid, he stated that plans were on-going to ensure that workers of the council received their pay in the nearest future.
The Tide was told by some aggrieved workers of the council who spoke under anonymity that they received half salaries last December, and were yet to be paid for the months of January and February.
They said that the non-payment of their salaries had led to the death of two of their colleagues.
It was further gathered that the protesting workers shut down activities at the council, as the gate was under lock and key for several hours.
They therefore pleaded with the council’s chairman to ensure full payment of their salaries so as to promote industrial harmony.
